Don’t Get Spooked by Food Safety This Halloween

Posted: 10/31/2025

Halloween is all about treats and treats—but your food safety shouldn’t be scary! Whether you’re catering a party or cooking up spooky snacks, a few simple steps can keep the fun going (and the pathogens away).

  1. Keep the Creepy Crawlies out of your kitchen! We work with licensed pest control officers for a reason. When it starts getting colder outside, our kitchens look warm and inviting for all the bugs and pests…but we have to make sure we’re being proactive about denying access.
  2. Carved Pumpkins are TCS Foods! Once that pumpkin turns into a jack-o-lantern, it needs time and temperature control to stay safe…otherwise, it’s decoration only! Keep sliced fruits and veg under proper temperature control.
  3. Spell your Hands clean (with soap and water!) Proper hygiene is crucial for keeping our food safe. Make sure those handwashing stations are stocked and ready to go.

A safe Halloween doesn’t mean less fun – with just a little extra care, you can make sure your spooky celebration stays delicious and worry-free. This season, keep the scares in the costumes, not in the kitchen! Looking for more? Come have a frightfully good time at one of our ServSafe® Food Protection Manager classes near you.
