Corporate Food Safety Failures and the Future

In a recent opinion piece from FoodSafetyNews.com, the author Detwiler outlines some of the most recent major food safety failures from corporations -- such as the 1993 Jack in the Box outbreak of E coli, and the 2015/2018 multiple outbreaks from Chipotle -- as well as the financial and business repurcussions from them. While the fines for company negligence leading to foodborne illness continues to increase, the article goes on to say that these fines will be built into their cost of business.

Fines are reactive, this is not doing anything to be proactive. It is only a matter of time before the lax standards and foodborne illness fines as "cost of business" become an insurmoutable problem. It's time to take a head on approach and work on a culture of care -- let's work on eliminating the problem to keep people safe and protect the future of these companies.
