Grocery Store Shopping SafetyTips!

Posted: 09/24/2018

People tend to get in and out of the grocery store as quickly as possible but this could pose safety risks like cross contamination and food spoilage.

Follow these tips to ensure food safety for you and your family!

* Clean your shopping cart. Wipe down the child seat, as well as the cart handle, with a disinfecting wipe.

*Use hand sanitizer. If soap and water are not available, its important after handling raw and packaged meat

*Reusable bags should be wiped down with hot, soapy water at least once a month

*Check your eggs. Open the carton and make sure none are cracked.

*Bag meat of any kind separately. Juices from meat can drip onto other food, spreading bacteria

*Organize your cart keeping meat and produce separate.  Shop for perishables last.

*Get home as quickly as possible to store food. Perishable food should not be out of refrigeration for more than 2 hours less if outside temperatures are high.
